The core of Stoic philosophy is the "dichotomy of control." You must distinguish between what is up to you and what is not.

Epictetus, one of the great Stoic teachers, taught that our primary task in life is to identify and separate matters so that we can say clearly to ourselves: "This is not under my control. What is under my control is the effort I put in." In the world of modern work, we have lost this distinction. We stress over emails we haven't received, deadlines that are set by others, and the opinions of our colleagues. We spend our mental energy on things that are not "up to us."

The 2D Dichotomy

Axtio is a digital implementation of the dichotomy of control. By dividing the board into "Mine" and "Other," we force you to make the Stoic distinction every time you look at your work. If a card is in the "Mine" court, it is up to you. It is your responsibility, your move, and your focus. If it is in the "Other" court, it is not up to you. You have done what you can, and the ball is elsewhere.

Reducing Anxiety Through Clarity

Anxiety thrives in ambiguity. When you have a single list of tasks, your brain treats them all as "pending commitments." It doesn't matter if half of them are waiting on someone else; your brain still feels the weight of the whole list. By visually separating the "Other" court, Axtio provides instant psychological relief. You can look at a project and say, "I have four tasks here, but only one is in my court." The other three are external factors. You can let them go.

Focusing on the Move, Not the Outcome

Stoicism teaches us to focus on the process rather than the result. In Axtio, the goal isn't to have an empty board; the goal is to ensure the balls are in the right courts. Productivity is the act of making your move and then passing the ball. By focusing on your "Mine" court, you are focusing on the only thing you truly control: your own actions.

We built Axtio for the modern Stoic. It is a tool that respects the limits of human control and helps you find calm by focusing exclusively on your next move.
