Axtio vs. Todoist: Lists End, Boards Reveal

Todoist is a superb list. But a list can only tell you what's left — it can't show you where work is stuck.

A list is one-dimensional by design

Todoist excels at capture and reminders. But its shape is a single column, and a single column can only encode one thing: order. It cannot show you, at a glance, which items are yours to act on versus which are parked waiting on someone else.

So delegated work disappears. You check a task off your list mentally the moment you hand it off, and it resurfaces only when it is late.

The second dimension is ownership

Axtio adds the axis a list is missing. The horizontal position of a card answers 'whose move is it?' — Mine, Other, Next Steps, or Done. A follow-up you're waiting on lives visibly in Other, aging in plain sight, instead of vanishing into a completed checkbox.

Projects as rows, not tags

In a list app, projects are tags you filter by, one at a time. In Axtio they are rows you see all at once, so you can scan five projects and instantly spot the one that has stalled. Filtering shows you a slice; a grid shows you the shape.

Keep Todoist for capture if you like

Many people brain-dump into a list and then organize into a board. Axtio's five-second capture means you may not need both — but if Todoist is muscle memory, Axtio is the layer that finally makes the backlog legible.
